Wow I really thought I could hold myself to posting monthly.
Life slowed down a bit when I broke my wrist in November. My dear friend and old roommate, Lucille, came to stay with me and was my right hand for a week and a half. She was a bright light in a place of pain and frustration.
I visited San Antonio to visit a good friend, Sol, and was privileged to meet their world. It was a nice escape from reality for a week.
Last Thursday I tested positive for COVID and had to do the whole contact my contacts, quarantine over Christmas, and get headaches from congestion thing.
That's a brief recap of the past couple months. That's all I have for you.
Recommendations:
Books
Spaces of Conflict, Sounds of Solidarity by Gaye Theresa Johnson (2013)
Johnson historicizes the alliances between Black folks and Chicanos in Los Angeles from the 1940s to present. Johnson speaks uses the term spatial entitlement to describe the Black and Chicano folks' fight against government and societal attempt to squash their existence. Johnson also goes into the sonic space that the marginalized groups occupied. Sol recommended this to me and it has been a very compelling read with lots to learn from.
Conversations With Friends by Sally Rooney (2017)
Rooney takes you on a Frances and Bobbi's journey of writing, performing, and adultery. This novel is a fun page-turner and perfect for getting lost in the world of someone else's drama. Escapism at its finest. Sophie recommended this book to me and I'm very thankful for the entertaining story.
Music
December's Monthly Playlist is linked here. I cannot possibly be bothered to think of a relevant album. I have been very much enjoying Lakim's music.
For as much media I consumed while on break for my wrist and for COVID, I cannot think of anything that is worth noting.
